On 10 February 1973, Wrest Point Casino (as it was known then) opened its doors to unanimous local and international acclaim. This significant milestone introduced not only Australia’s first legal casino, but put Tasmanian tourism firmly on the global stage.
Locally, Tasmanians took ownership. They got involved. Wrest Point (as it is known today) was theirs. Everyone was connected. They were, and continue to be, employees, ferry operators, community event organisers and participants, bus drivers, suppliers, builders, hospitality trainers and trainees, restaurant owners, wine makers, taxi drivers, tourism experience operators, hotel owners, brides and our guests. Hobart matured and developed around Wrest Point.
Forty years later, from 14 January until 10 February 2013, Wrest Point will be alive with a program of activities and events, showcasing everything that makes Tasmania and Wrest Point the icons they are today. Come and reconnect or connect with us for the first time. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Highlights of our program include:
And back by popular demand, Regines will be open each Friday and Saturday night during our celebrations.
Each day there’ll be something to suit all tastes and budgets, from entertaining master classes to themed Quiz nights, 40th Birthday High Tea Fridays and special menus across our restaurants and bars.
In honour of our birthday on Sunday 10 February 2013 and capping off our celebrations is The Red Hot Summer Tour. Performing on the lawns with the iconic Wrest Point tower as the backdrop, we’re thrilled to be welcoming Jimmy Barnes, Dragon, Chocolate Starfish and Ian Moss to our 40th.
It promises to be an exciting time for Wrest Point and the community in which we play such an important part.
We hope to see you at the Point during our 4 Decades in 4 Weeks celebrations.
